For parents

Your child studying in United States: the essentials on one page

We wrote this page for parents: the real cost in VND, the money you must show, what work is allowed, how safe it is, the key dates and exactly what we charge. Figures are estimates; we confirm each one in writing before you pay anything.

What it costs

First year

VND 726M–2.4B

Paid before you fly

VND 363M–1.6B

Per month

VND 30M–67M

First pathway, average city, school dormitory. Includes tuition, housing, food, transport and insurance; excludes flights and visa fees. Exchange rate used: 1 USD = VND 26,300, updated 1 Oct 2026.

Change pathway, city or length of stay

The savings you must show

F-1 student visa (I-20) Parents or other sponsors can provide funds; each sponsor signs an affidavit of support. VND 789M–2.2B≈ USD 30,000–85,000 at least 3 months

Open the savings book early and keep the money there. A large deposit just before applying, or money borrowed for the occasion, is the most common reason for refusal. Confirm the current figure with the embassy and the school.

Part-time work

Legal limit in term
20 hours a week in term
In school holidays
Full time on campus during official breaks

On an F-1 visa you may work on campus only. Off-campus work (CPT or OPT) must relate to your major and be authorised by your school. Your I-20 assumes you do not need to work to pay your costs.

Please do not plan on part-time income to pay tuition or repay a loan. It usually covers part of the monthly living cost at best, and only after the first few months.

Safety and daily life

Safety varies a lot by city and campus. Universities run campus police and international student offices. Health insurance is essential because medical care is very expensive.

After graduation: Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows 12 months of work after graduation, with a 24-month extension for eligible STEM degrees.

Protect your family

Warning signs, whoever you choose

Embassies regularly warn Vietnamese families about these. If you hear any of them, from us or anyone else, walk away.

  • A guaranteed visa, or a "98 to 100% visa success" figure nobody can check. Only the embassy or immigration decides.
  • Promises that part-time work will pay your tuition, or that you can earn back your costs quickly.
  • Offers to "arrange" a savings book or financial documents for you. Fake documents are a crime and lead to bans.
  • An all-inclusive price with no written breakdown, or new fees after you have paid a deposit.
  • Pressure to sign or pay today, or a contract you cannot take home to read.
  • No business licence, no real office address, or payment requested to a personal account.
