For parents

Your child studying in South Korea: the essentials on one page

We wrote this page for parents: the real cost in VND, the money you must show, what work is allowed, how safe it is, the key dates and exactly what we charge. Figures are estimates; we confirm each one in writing before you pay anything.

What it costs

VND 285M–466M

Paid before you fly

VND 106M–144M

Per month

VND 15M–27M

The savings you must show

Language programme (D-4-1) Usually in the student's or a parent's name, supported by the parent's income proof. VND 263M≈ USD 10,000 at least 6 months
Degree study (D-2) Usually the student or a parent, with income proof. VND 421M–526M≈ USD 16,000–20,000 at least 3 months

Open the savings book early and keep the money there. A large deposit just before applying, or money borrowed for the occasion, is the most common reason for refusal. Confirm the current figure with the embassy and the school.

Part-time work

Legal limit in term
20 hours a week in term
In school holidays
Usually unlimited during official university vacations, with permission

Part-time work needs permission before you start. The cap depends on your visa, TOPIK level and year of study, commonly 10 to 25 hours a week. Language students (D-4) usually have to study for six months first. We use 20 hours as a conservative figure.

Please do not plan on part-time income to pay tuition or repay a loan. It usually covers part of the monthly living cost at best, and only after the first few months.

Safety and daily life

Korea is safe, with excellent public transport. The serious risk is illegal work: working without permission can lead to removal from the country.

After graduation: Graduates can apply for a job-seeking visa (D-10) and move to a professional work visa (E-7) once employed in a qualifying role.

Protect your family

Warning signs, whoever you choose

Embassies regularly warn Vietnamese families about these. If you hear any of them, from us or anyone else, walk away.

  • A guaranteed visa, or a "98 to 100% visa success" figure nobody can check. Only the embassy or immigration decides.
  • Promises that part-time work will pay your tuition, or that you can earn back your costs quickly.
  • Offers to "arrange" a savings book or financial documents for you. Fake documents are a crime and lead to bans.
  • An all-inclusive price with no written breakdown, or new fees after you have paid a deposit.
  • Pressure to sign or pay today, or a contract you cannot take home to read.
  • No business licence, no real office address, or payment requested to a personal account.
